Local Retailer Donates Money to Courtlands Resident Association

11/08/2010

The Nisa Local of Courtlands Drive, Watford, has donated £400 to local good cause Courtlands Resident Association, which will use the funds to improve the local area. The store also recently supported the Courtlands family fun day that took place on the 5th June.

The Nisa Local has been raising money for its local community through the sale of specific products in store and has been able to donate the money raised with the help of the charity Making A Difference – Locally (MADL). The MADL charity was formed in May 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the cost of certain products promoted instore being allocated to the retailer’s MADL charity fund. For instance, this month for every box of Weetabix Minis Fruit & Nut purchased in store, 5p of the sale will go into the retailer’s MADL fund to be donated to their chosen charity.

The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s and Costcutter Supermarkets and the stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or independent retailers who are part of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group.

Narendra Patel, store manager, commented: “The local community is extremely supportive of our store, so helping the Courtland’s Resident Association is our way of saying thank you. We are heavily involved in the local community and we are always keen to get involved in any local events. The MADL charity encourages the local community to raise funds through shopping in our store as they know the money raised will help the local area.”
