The MADL charity donates £10,000 to the East Africa Crisis Appeal

01/08/2011

The Making A Difference – Locally (MADL) charity has donated £10,000 to the East Africa Crisis Appeal. Donations to this appeal will help provide lifesaving aid such as food, water, care for malnourished children and medical treatment for over 10 million people which are at risk due to conflict and the worst drought in over 60 years.

John Schofield, MADL board member, commented: “The £10,000 which MADL has donated will hopefully be of great use to the people of East Africa at this time. It is awful to see such a large population suffering in this way, we hope the MADL donation along with the donations of other organisations will help ease the anguish of this country. Our thoughts are with the men, women and children affected by this terrible situation.”

The MADL charity was formed in May 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money primarily for their local communities, although donations as in this case can be targeted at specific disaster appeals. MADL has raised over £2.8 million since its creation which has helped a wide number of charities and good causes.

The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s and Costcutter Supermarkets and the stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or independent retailers who are part of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group.
