Local retailer, Harry Tuffin, has donated £1,200 in the last week to three different local charities and good causes, each receiving £400. The first to receive a donation was Norbury Parochial Church Council, which will use the funds to repair the church porch. Holy Trinity Church Lydham received £400 which will go towards the repairs of the stonework to the east gable and the east and west Victorian windows. Finally, St Nicholas Church Army will use the donation to fund its Activity Trailer Youth Project residential trip to Blaithwaite House for secondary school children in the local community.
Harry Tuffin has been raising money for its local community through the sale of specific products in store and has been able to donate the money raised with the help of the charity Making A Difference – Locally (MADL). The MADL charity was formed in May 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the cost of certain products promoted instore being allocated to the retailer’s MADL charity fund. For instance, this month for every 4 pack of Ribena purchased in store, 3p of the sale will go into the MADL fund to be donated to their chosen charity.
The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s and Costcutter Supermarkets and the stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or independent retailers who are part of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group.
Paul Delves, managing director, commented: “It is great that Harry Tuffin can keep making these significant donations to local charities and good causes through the Making A Difference – Locally charity. We are extremely close to our local communities and this is our way of showing our thanks for their constant support and loyalty.”
