Stoke retailer Keith’s Supermarket of High Lane, Brown Edge, Stoke-on-Trent has donated £500 to local charity Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust, which will help to provide respite to children with life threatening conditions.
Keith’s Supermarket has been raising money for its local community through the sale of specific products in store and has been able to donate the money raised to the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust with the help of the charity Making A Difference – Locally (MADL). The MADL charity was formed in May of this year with the intention of assisting more than 2000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the participating products being allocated to a charity – chosen by the retailer - on purchase. For instance, this month for every Heinz Soup purchased in store, five pence of the sale will go into the retailer’s chosen charity fund.
The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s, the UK's leading member-owned organisation, providing benefits to independent retailers and wholesalers in food and drink markets, in association with Costcutter Supermarkets. The stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or Costcutter Supermarkets.
Keith’s Supermarket has been trading in the area for over 40 years and in this time has developed a great relationship with the local community. Jane Bailey, owner comments, “The Making A Difference – Locally charity has enabled us to donate money to this great cause. We chose the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust as it is based within our local community and one of our colleagues had family in the hospice for a short period of time. We are hoping that, with the help of the charity and our loyal customers, we will be able to continue to raise money which we can save for charities/good causes in our local community.”
Head of Fundraising and PR for the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust, Melanie Mills, said, "We need to raise £2 million every year to continue the service and we need all the support we can get, so we are really grateful to everyone at Keith's Supermarket for their support which will help to make difference to our children."
