M&G Stores Ltd, which operates Nisa Local stores located on Gidlow Lane, Wigan and Wigan Lower Road, Standish Lower Ground, has donated £500 to MacMillan Cancer Support, thanks to the support of its customers and suppliers.
The Nisa Local stores have been raising money for their local communities through the sale of specific products in store and have been able to donate the money raised with the help of the charity Making A Difference Locally (MADL). MADL is an independent registered charity (Charity Number 1123800) created in 2008 by Nisa with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers supplied by Nisa throughout the UK raise money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the cost of certain products promoted in store being allocated to the retailer’s MADL charity fund. For example this month, for every 250g bag of Tilda Rice purchased in store, 2p of the sale will go to the retailer’s MADL fund. Participating Nisa members are then able to choose local charities or good causes that they would like to donate to, which in this case was identified as MacMillan Cancer Support.
MacMillan Cancer Support provide practical, medical and financial support for people living with cancer in the community as well as promoting better cancer care.
George and Mark Hardie, who own and run the Nisa Local stores, commented: “We chose to donate to MacMillan Cancer Support not only because of the work they do nationally, but because of the close relationship they have with our local community and the money we have donated will be spent in the Wigan area. Next year we hope to be able to donate even more to MacMillan with the support of our customers as the Nisa own label Heritage range now also contributes to the MADL fund.”
Katie Powell, Fundraising Manager for Greater Manchester at MacMillan Cancer Support said: “We would like to thank the owners of the Nisa Local stores for choosing to donate to Macmillan Cancer support. The money raised will help us to continue to provide support to all those affected by cancer’.
