Local Retailer Supports Local Good Cause Orcel Sea Training

06/08/2010

The Nisa store on Wynyard Road, Hartlepool, Cleveland, has provided support to local good cause Orcel Sea Training including contributing raffle prizes and a donation of £2,000 from the store’s Making A Difference – Locally (MADL) fund which has helped them to participate in the International Tall Ship Race that set sail on Sunday 4th of July. This donation has helped the youngsters establish their sailing dreams by competing in this prestigious race.

The Orcel Sea Training uses sail training to help develop the social skills of teenagers from Hartlepool. The team will be one of the youngest in the race this weekend, with the majority of the youngsters being aged 15-17 years old.

The Nisa store has been raising money for its local community through the sale of specific products in store and was able to donate the money raised with the help of the charity Making A Difference – Locally (MADL). The MADL charity was formed in May 2008 with the intention of assisting more than 2,000 independent retailers throughout the UK with raising money for their local communities. The charity works by a specified amount of the cost of certain products promoted instore being allocated to the retailer’s MADL charity fund. For instance, this month for every box of Weetabix Minis Fruit & Nut purchased in store, 5p of the sale will go into the retailer’s MADL fund to be donated to their chosen charity.

The charity was created by Nisa-Today’s and Costcutter Supermarkets and the stores participating in the scheme are all members of Nisa-Today’s or independent retailers who are part of the Costcutter Supermarkets Group.

Leo Gillen, store owner, commented: “The Orcel Sea Training is a fantastic resource for the local teenagers – it not only provides them with an enjoyable hobby but also develops their social skills helping to build their confidence and team work abilities. We are very pleased to be able to help the youngsters take part in the International Tall Ship Race and the completion of this challenge will be a great accomplishment for all involved.”
