Proudfoot supermarkets Making a Difference for local Parkinson’s UK branch

Published on 05 June 2018

Scarborough-based Proudfoot supermarkets are supporting their local branch of Parkinson’s UK this month with a £200 donation to help reach out to more Parkinson’s sufferers in the local community.

The family-run supermarket group donated the funds through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of Heritage own label products and branded items featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet.

The Scarborough & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK supports people suffering with the condition, as well as their carers and families, in addition to supporting respite care and specialist equipment.

Paul Hill, on behalf of the Scarborough & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK, commented: “The Making a Difference Locally donation will go a long way in reaching out to the local community by providing quality publications available to all Parkinson’s sufferers within our area.

“It is estimated that there are more than 300 suffers within our area. At the moment we are in regular contact with approximately 30% of them. We would like to reach out to more people, so suffers are aware that we are here for them.

“A new project we are also wanting to start is the Parkinson’s Café, where suffers and/or carers can meet over a drink and have an informal chat. These café sessions will be outside of our regular meeting times, mainly to be held in the evenings or weekends to allow those people who are working a chance to get together.”
