Proud to celebrate Yorkshire Day!

Published on 22 August 2016

Scarborough retailer The Proudfoot Group celebrated their Yorkshire heritage earlier this month by holding a tasting event and cheque presentation day at their Newby store on Scalby Road, to coincide with Yorkshire Day.

The family-friendly event included product sampling from a wide variety of local suppliers, including Anna’s Happy Trotters, Yorkshire Baker, Baytown Beers, Taylors of Harrogate and many more; as well as a face painter on hand to keep the little ones happy!

Proudfoot’s also took the opportunity to present cheques to seven local causes through Making a Difference Locally, which were presented in the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Scarborough, who then took a tour of the Newby store and sampled some of the fantastic Yorkshire produce on offer.

Causes supported on the day (pictured) included:

  • £250 to 739 Air Cadets, Scarborough Squadron
  • £250 to Friends of South Cliff Gardens
  • £250 to Gallows Close Centre
  • £250 to Scarborough and Bridlington Motor Neurone Disease Support Group
  • £250 to Autism Plus
  • £250 to Scarborough, Filey and District Guide Dogs for the Blind
  • £150 to St Peters Church, Willerby, Staxton

Valerie Aston, Buying and Distribution Controller for the Proudfoot Group, commented: “We are proud to support Yorkshire producers and aim to celebrate some of the fantastic local produce available with this special day. We are delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Scarborough to join us in our celebrations and see the best of what Yorkshire has to offer.”

Earlier this year Proudfoot’s Newby was acknowledged for its positive impact on the community in Nisa’s Shop Local competition, which saw the store win £1,000 into its Making a Difference Locally fund. The Proudfoot Group were also awarded the title of ‘Making a Difference Locally Community Champion’ this year for their commitment to the local community.
