Local retailer helps to light up Linwood

Published on 01 December 2015

The Nisa Extra store in Linwood, Paisley has supported a community project to bring some festive cheer to the town of Linwood with a donation of £200. The store donated the money to the Light Up Linwood fund, run by Linwood Community Council, which raises money to purchase Christmas lights and decorations to be displayed around the Linwood area.

Prior to the local council setting up this fund three years ago, the small Renfrewshire town of  Linwood had few public Christmas lights or decorations, but the funds raised for the Light Up Linwood project have enabled the town to now enter its third year running with not only decorations but a light switch on night. The switch on to date has been a huge success, with over 1800 members of the community attending the event last year. This year there was plenty to keep residents of all ages entertained, with raffles, craft stalls, fun fair rides and even real reindeer on show.

The store donated the money to the cause through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity to benefit people of all ages in the local community. The charity raises money to be donated to good causes in the local area from the sale of items from Nisa’s own-label Heritage range and a number of branded products in store.

A spokesperson from the store said of the donation: “The money will be put towards the funds for erecting Christmas lights and decorations in Linwood. Prior to the local council setting up this fund, Linwood has never had any Christmas lights or decorations but because of this fund this will be the third year running that Linwood has had a light switch on night. The store also plans on giving some funding to other local charities and schools over the festive period to help with any community events that will be happening.”

The Nisa Extra store was also nominated as MADL Community Champion in November for its dedication to the community, receiving an extra £250 into their MADL funds to be donated to local good causes in the future.
