The Proudfoot Group donates to local community

Published on 07 May 2014

The independently run stores located in Newby, Eastfield and Seamer districts raised the monies through their membership of Nisa and its Making A Difference Locally (MADL) charity. Over the past two years The Proudfoot Group has donated nearly £13,000 through Nisa’s charity.

The worthy causes benefitting are Lindhead Out of School Club and York Teaching Hospital Charity – Snowdrop Appeal with £250 each and Scarborough (Eastfield) Scout Group with £200.

Valerie Aston, of the Proudfoot Group, said: “We are delighted to make these three donations because the charities and good causes will truly benefit from the funding.

“As a retailer it is vital to be at the heart of the community and we can do this by supporting them through Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally charity.”

York Teaching Hospital Charity at Scarborough Hospital will put the donation towards the Snowdrop Appeal to create a maternity bereavement suite to allow comfort, privacy and time for parents who have experienced stillbirth or serious problems in pregnancy.

Maya Richardson, community fundraiser, said: “Whilst most parents experience pregnancy and birth as a happy and joyous occasion this is sadly not always the case.

“In the UK 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth every day. The heart ache, the turmoil, the anguish a parent experiences can, without care and support, stay with them for the rest of their life. All parents deserve and are entitled to the best care and support available and this donation will help ensure that service if provided.”

The Lindhead Out Of School Club has put the donation towards upgrading the children’s play area space which cost in the region of £1,251.

Lesley Hodgson from the club said: “We provide quality childcare to the children of Burniston and surrounding areas and in order for the children to play safely outside, we needed to improve the decking area. We are very grateful for the donation.”

The 49th Scarborough (Eastfield) Scout Group will use this money to purchase an amplifier, microphone and speaker to use at scout led events.

Iain Clarke, explorer scout leader, said: “The donation is brilliant news because times are hard for everyone at the moment; so from behalf of the scout group thank you Proudfoot and Nisa for your support.

“The amplifier, speaker set and microphone will be useful for fundraising events, social nights and recently we did a pantomime but found it really hard to shout above the noise.”
