Featherstone retailer supports local aspiring rugby players

Published on 01 June 2017

A Featherstone convenience store has supported local rugby club Featherstone Lions ARLFC this month to help fund updated facilities for the club. The Nisa Local on Priory Road donated £1,800 to the amateur rugby club, which coaches budding young rugby players, through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity.

Making a Difference Locally (MADL) raises funds in Nisa member stores from customers purchasing items from Nisa’s Heritage own-label range and a number of branded products, highlighted with the MADL logo in store, which carry charitable donations from the suppliers. A percentage of this money then goes into a fund for the store to donate to a local charity or good cause within a 10 mile radius, to ensure money raised by the community stays within the community.

Richard Taylor, Featherstone Lions Chairman and local town councillor, said of the donation: “It’s great to see local businesses succeeding in the town during these challenging times, especially when they are willing to give something back to the community. That's what community is all about - everyone supporting each other!".

Tony Singh, owner of Nisa Local, Featherstone, agreed, commenting: "Since we opened our business five years ago, we feel that we have been embraced by our local community and made a real difference by making life a little easier. It is with great pride, and that of my dedicated staff, that we make this donation to a worthwhile cause that also makes a difference to lives of the local community".

Featherstone Lions board member Clive Tennant added: “We would like to thank Tony and his team at Nisa for this kind donation that will help us to make some much needed investment into the club's facilities".
