Charity donation rocks the KASBAH

Published on 17 September 2015

A Nisa Local store in Gravesend made a significant donation to local charity KASBAH earlier this month. The London Road store generously donated £500 to the cause, which supports people with physical and/or learning disabilities.

The money was raised through Nisa’s Making A Difference Locally charity, through customers purchasing items from the own-label Heritage range and certain branded products in store. A percentage of the sale cost of these items then goes into a virtual fund to be donated to local charities and good causes of the store owners’ choice.

KASBAH is a charity which offers support services to anyone with physical or learning disabilities, and their families and carers. It is renowned as a specialist provider of independence training for the disabled, with three residential sites in Kent; all offering support and training in all day-to-day life skills to vulnerable adults between the ages of 18-35.

KASBAH is using the donation to take residents to the Butlin’s seaside resort in Bognor Regis later in the year.

Nisa store owner Harry Goraya said this charity stood out to him as he was keen to give something back to customers of the store. He said of the donation: “We here at Nisa Rosherville are continually looking to support all worthwhile causes and this particular charity fits perfectly, especially as many of the people Kasbah supports are also customers of the store."

Victoria Norris, House Co-ordinator for KASBAH commented: "At KASBAH we support adults with learning disabilities to lead independent and fulfilled lives. Our service users are all on disability benefits which makes it very difficult for them to fund things like holidays, so we would normally have to complete a lot of fundraising for this to happen. The money donated from Making A Difference Locally will assist us to provide our service users with the opportunity to have a long weekend away to Butlins this year. This will allow them some time out to forget about their disabilities, have some fun, relax and enjoy themselves - they are all really looking forward to it. We would like to say a big thank you to Nisa and to Making A Difference Locally."
