Store donates to communal garden

Published on 15 December 2014

A generous Nisa Local store in the heart of Hackney has donated a fantastic £300 to a therapeutic garden for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

The independently owned store on Weymouth Terrace raised the money through the Making A Difference Locally charity, where customers purchase specific products in store, and a percentage of the money goes into a virtual fund for the retailer and shopper to choose a local charity to donate to.

The money will make a difference to St Mary’s Secret Garden which has been offered as a safe space for 25 years and supports the local community to gain hands-on experience of gardening and other ecotherapy activities.

Yvonne Alabi, from the store, said: “We are thrilled to be able to donate the money to such a worthy cause which helps combat isolation and develops valuable skills. We must thank our loyal customers who have helped us raise the money by purchasing specific products in store.

“We cannot wait for our virtual funds to build up again and to donate to another local charity or good cause in order to support the community we live in.”
